A MAC Product Specialist and what it means to be.

A product specialist (or PS) within MAC is one or two artists on counter that know the ins and outs about MAC products and collections past, present and future, the trainers of MAC call us “the on counter trainers” which I loved!! Give us a shout in store if you have any questions!!

I was the product specialist for the last eight months, it’s usually only a six-month opportunity however they asked us to stay on for a couple of months, obviously they couldn’t let us go we were that marvellous…! During these months we are in charge of inspiring the team about the new collections coming out and also inspiring through artistry matching the new collections with the mainline products, making sure the customers love them as much as we do!

My eight months came to an end this week so to celebrate we have a hand over meeting, this is where the “old PS” create a presentation for the trainers and soon to be new product specialists, ready for the artist’s take over the role, see what we do it and give them the chance to shine! This hand over meeting was remarkable! One of the most amazing experiences I’ve had so far working within MAC it almost felt like I was auditioning for the XFactor with a panel of judges, minus my awful singing… no one wants to hear that!!

To start the show, we had the beautiful Hollie from Nottingham doing a demo on the Liptensity lipstick collection with the most amazing sharp lip, she nailed it! Her fun facts were my favourite! Did you know The colours and patterns that a butterfly sees are invisible to a human?! However, Maureen Seaberg, helped MAC create the Liptensity lipsticks and she is a Tetrachromat (don’t worry I can’t pronounce it either…) which means she can see around 100 times more colours than the average person! So Hollie said she’s like a butterfly! How cute!!

Next up!! Jaz from Leicester took the stage wowing us about the diffused trend, a beautiful demonstration where she paired products we sometimes forget about to create the most fantastic glowing skin. She knew exactly what she was talking about and owned it, the mood board she created to show the trend was amazing and really reflected what she was telling us!!

Sophia’s turn!!!! Sophia from Merry Hill then spoke to us about the new essential oils collection, she created a little MAC mixology creating the most stunning highlight and lip combination. Sophia made us really understand the product ingredients and how we can use them in fun different ways, also showing us how everyone on Instagram is already using them! Such a loved product!!

Then I had to face my fears and stand in the spotlight… HELPPP!! The guys were amazing and even gave me an encouraging intro shouting… SAFFRON! SAFFRON! SAFFRON! It was wonderful! I felt like a superstar!! I threw doughnuts at everyone saying “If you don’t already think I’m bonkers… you will after this and you know what, I’m okay with that!!” I was unsure if we would have a new product to play with (lip scrubtious) so I told them to create their own… Doughnut challenge!! Eat your doughnut without licking your lips then hey presto you have your very own lip scrub and a happy tummy! We’re all about that lip prep! I then discussed the sharp trend briefly, turned to the product specialists and said… “I now want you to pair up and with your partner create a sharp lip, however you’re not allowed a mirror. Your partner is your mirror; they now have to direct you into creating the perfect sharp lip”. Everyone looked at me like I was absolutely barking mad but they smashed it of course! It was just so much fun, I loved it and I hope they guys did too!

Finally, we had Amy from Selfridges finishing up the show with a party… A MAC party!!!! Amy talked to us about a new service MAC are offering and introducing to the customers. She made it so much fun even doing a pass the parcel in a MAC Q&A way and how she described it to us made me feel I could go back to store and tell everyone about it!! Cannot wait for the party to start!! Thanks Amy!!

I love how inspiring meeting up with the team is for me, I learn so much from everyone and always leave feeling inspired about MAC and the incredible guys that work for the brand, honestly the loveliest bunch of creatives and I count myself very lucky to be apart of it and to learn from them all.

I have learned so much from being a product specialist not only about MAC and the products but about myself too, eight months ago when they told us wed be doing presentations in front of everyone I was having heart palpitations just thinking about it! There’s no way I… ME?! Stand in front of everyone and do a presentation… You’re having a giggle!! However, I did it, I passed my certification!! Yay me!! Certified product specialist!! I was so nervous and I don’t know why because I’d honestly do it all over again! Thanks to my MAC family I now have the confidence to take on the world and my first MAC cert!!!

I have added the teams Instagram’s if you want to keep up to date on the outstanding artistry they’re constantly throwing out there! I love my MAC family and the inspiration they always give me! I can also go into more detail of the trends and products we discussed so just let me know!!

Lots of love,
Just Saffron.
